what is the use of # in data declaration

hi experts,

i am working in one of the old programs, where in data declaration they have used -

data: matnr like mara-matnr,##

mfrpn like mara-mfrpn,##

and when i work in front end editor (4.7c), these data come in red colour. i know when i comment any line with (*), that line comes in red colour.

i want to know why these lines comes in red colour.

is it any pseudo comment of older version or what.

plz rectify my doubt.

The guess they might be using it for line feed or carriage return...

the replacement of that in ECC : data:con_cret type c value cl_abap_char_utilities=>CR_LF.

Will they use the line feed or carriage return in abap for data declaration???

i know that line feed or carriage return is used in the file and while updating this kind of characters appears. but how come it appear in data declaration.

i dont get u.

Hi,

I dont think # inside your main code has any meaning.

You can safely delete those.

when i delete it is not giving any error.

but i just want to know, when it comes in data declaration why no error appears and why it comes in red colour when i work with front end editor?

when i check in se80 with the prog name, it comes in fields list - ##.

what is the use of that?

Any idea?

Hi,

Is ## displayed in Red or mfrpn is displayed in red?

If mfrpn is displayed in red, that means that there is something wrong in the previous stmt, which is ##.

Anything that is declared after the keyword "data" is assumed to be a variable, that is why you see in the Field list.

Hi Sakthi,

means a character that cannot be displayed. Probably thes are control characters from you old system, e.g. linefeed, tab, carriage return or the like.

The lines are displayed in red because the editor does not know how to handle. So # is ignored. You can delete the characters to have a better look or you can do the same as the editor does: Ignore them. There is definitely to syntactcal meaning at all.
