Idoc Configurations

Hi,

I have a doubt in the configurations for setting up an interface between systems using ALE/EDI.

For a given message type and basic idoc type, we will be setting up the function module that needs to be executed for an inbound idoc in transaction WE57.

Also, in partner profile setup, using transaction WE20, we will be specifiying the inbound message types that will be received from a particular partner. Here, however, we specify message type vs. process code. Now, for the process code itself, we can specify eitther a function module or workflow task in transaction WE42.

For eg. consider the below setup:

WE20:

LS - ZTESTSYS

Incoming Mess Type - ZTESTMESS , Proc Code - ZTEST

WE42:

Proc Code - ZTEST

Identification - TS12345678(some standard task)

WE57:

FM - ZPROCESSINCOMING

Mess Type - ZTESTMESS

Basic Type - ZBASIC

My question is how does the system determine how to process the incoming idoc? Whether task or FM?

Hi Asit,

Thanks for your reply.

But this doesnt answer my query. I m not asking about the 'steps' to follow to set up the pre-requisite configurations. Its more a query on how the system determines the FM module to be used.

Lets forget about workflows for now. Consider this setup:

WE20:

LS - ZTESTSYS

Incoming Mess Type - ZTESTMESS , Proc Code - ZTEST

WE42:

Proc Code - ZTEST

Identification - ZPROCESSINCOMING1

WE57:

FM - ZPROCESSINCOMING2

Mess Type - ZTESTMESS

Basic Type - ZBASIC

Now, when my ystem receives an idoc of type ZBASIC and message ZTESTMESS, which function module will process it? ZPROCESSINCOMING1 or ZPROCESSINCOMING2?

At what stage is it used?

Ask it because, the system has all the required data to process an inbound idoc from all other configurations - partner profile, message type and process code from WE20, the FM/task to process idoc from WE42.

So, is WE57 actually redundant?

Thanks,

Adarsh
