BAPI vs BDC for data conversion of customer master data

A query for the good folks here in SAP forum.

Does anyone know if it will be better to use BAPI or BDC when updating customer master data during data conversion. stage ?

Its always advisable to use a BAPI rather than BDC when the BAPI is avaiable. BAPI is like a ready made standard solution provided by SAP to be used. BDC's are generally time consuming and error prone. If a suitable BAPI is already available, always use that

Always go for BAPI (if you can find one) for updating data. BAPIs are much more efficient and faster as compared to BDC.

BDC's take more time to execute and also if the screen of the transaction is altered at a later stage, the BDC program will fail and a new BDC will have to be created.

If you mean the step to convert the data from file or legacy system I don't believe there's a difference, I think only the side of program to load the data to BAPI structures usually is easier than BDC, but the BAPI for customer can't load all data (for example address).
