SAP Note 350068 - Additional fields in VA05 - Problem

I've followed the example given in this note on how to add a field to the display output yet I'm still not seeing the customer material number in the layout list. Am I missing something?

I don't remember any 'tricks' with updating the VA05 display. I haven't done it for 'Customer Material Number' but have done it for multiple 'Z' fields. Are you saying that the field value isn't populated or that the field does not appear in the field catalog at all? What does your display variant look like?

Hi Brad,

I don't even see it when trying to create a layout. I don't believe it's in the field catalog. Where can I check for that? What I actually want to do is include the ship-to customer number from VBPA in the ALV. I've followed the SAP Note instructions but I'm not seeing the field when trying to create a layout.

Check your VBMTV field addition again. You can view the field catalog determination and population in program MV75AALV_ALV_ZUGRIFFSART_BESTI. form alv_zugriffsart_bestimmen. Debug that and it may give you some clue as to what's wrong. It may be a buffering issue if your VBMTV entry looks good.

It's definitely appearing in the structure in MV75AALV_ALV_ZUGRIFFSART_BESTI. Where would I check for buffer issues?

If your field is showing in the field catalog list when the transaction gets the default variant definition, then it's not a buffer issue. The buffer issue would come into play if you made the VBMTV change but the value didn't show up in the catalog because the definition in the buffer had not been invalidated or refreshed. Check the NO_OUT value in your field catalog for the field or debug past the previous point. Other than that, there's not much else I can suggest. As I remember, the process was fairly straightforward - just add a field in the append structure for VBMTV and then code the user exit to populate the value.

Okay, went back through the debugger again and noticed the NO_OUT is flagged as 'X' for the field. How do I correct that?

I also want to say that although I'm just following the example in the Note, I really want to be able to display the ship-to customer number VBPA-KUNNR where VBPA-KUNNR-PARVW = 'SH'.

Open your current display variant from VA05 - check the column list on the right, your required field is probably sitting in there as an undisplayed field. You just need to open that 'default' display variant in change mode, move the column over, and then save the variant. Note that you need parameter ID SD_VARIANT_MAINTAIN set to 'A' on your user profile to do this. Now, if you really want a different field, then you just need to add a custom field to VBMTV and then code the population in the user exit in V05TZZMO:


 CASE ZP.

*   Header
    WHEN 'VBAK'.

       CLEAR LVBMTV-ZZSHIPTO.

       SELECT SINGLE KUNNR FROM VBPA INTO LVBMTV-ZZSHIPTO
              WHERE VBELN EQ LVBAK-VBELN

Thanks for your help, Brad, but it's still not working. The field is not showing up in the list when I go to layout. It is in the field catalog and it's getting populated in the user-exit but I'm not getting the option to display it in the output.

All includes are MV75* ....

We have ECC 5.0 version.... Is this the problem?

Last change of this program was in 07.06.2001 ....

I thought I would update this issue. As of today, it is now working! I had tried this in two development environments and was preparing documentation to a message we sent to SAP as they were going to look. I still have to talk to BASIS and see if anything has transpired in the last two weeks like system refresh or server reboots. I have no explanation as to why it is suddenly working as the instructions from the Note were followed to a "T". I even sat down with another ABAP developer and the functional and two weeks ago, the fields were not displaying.

Old post, but I have some addition:

Use WHEN "VBAP" as time for reading the Ship-To-Kunnr, since table VBPA has POSNR in its key.

Use Function Module SD_DOCUMENT_PARTNER_READ for data selection. Data access is buffered (better performance) and it can handle the "POSNR-specific data first, then the rest"-situation automatically.
