Can we create a database index?

Hi all..

Can we create a database index for a customised table? and later on can we change the same database index?

Also if possible please provide me with a suitable link for this topic.

hi,

use <b>SE14</b>

enter the table name..

click on the index button.. or in the menu.

Yes we can create indexes and recreate them...

Just open the table in SE11 and in menu...

Go to -> Index

Click on New.

Check the fields based on which an index is to be created and Activate..

But do we need any special kind of authorization for creating a database index.?

Hi Subhash,

1 ) For an index to create , You have the necessary user authorizations and the user attribute NOT EXCLUSIVE.

2) Indexes provide access to the table data using non-key columns plus If duplicate keys have already been inserted in the table, it is no longer possible to create the index. You must identify the incorrect keys and delete them.

3) Having Multiple index on the same table will also effect the performance.

You can create your own index also keeping in mind the above points from SE11 as suggested above.

Hi,

Just checked it out...

You can create indexes for Z* tables without authorizations

For standard tables:

When you create an index you have to have authorizations.

You must send some Workbench Requests.

Else you can ask your Basis team to create indexes on the table.

Hi,

You cannot change a database index for a table as long as you have data in the table. You will have to delete the index and recreate it.

You should go to se14 transaction to activate your changes made to the structure of the table.
