Read_text and save_text

Hi..

i wud like to know the usage of both these things?

r these useful only to read EDI text or any other?

Please clarify me.

with read_text we read the text stored in STXH and STXL tables.

we have to pass textID, text OBJECT, name

Read_text is generally used to read any Long Text into SAP.

Save_Text is used to save Load text into SAP

READ_TEXT and SAVE_TEXT are used to read and save long texts respectively.

Read_Text FM is used to read long text, using; Text-ID, Lang, Text-Name and Object has parameters.

Save_Text is the function module that writes a text module to the text file or text memory, depending on the specific text-object.

Iam not sure about EDI.

it is used to read and save the long text. this is not used only for EDI text. this used to save sales order long texts and etc..

save_text will create or change the stxh or stxl entry

Hi,

These are useful to read aby text

Read_text : Used to read the text which is saved

save_Text : Saves the desired text.

U need to pass the Text name ,TEXT ID, TEXT OBJECT, LANGUAGE .

Suppose if you want to read or save text in sales order item for Material sales text

Text name Salesorder and item

Language EN

Text ID 9100 Material sales text

Text object VBBP Sales Item texts

in some transactions,

u need to enter texts for the fields, these texts are stored in text tables with an uniques object id, text name, langauage combination.

these fn modules will retrieve data from the text tables

based on the above info.

Hi,

suppose you take sales order for sales order we can see the header text and item texts, they are long some times.

so we need to maintain those texts or read those using read_text or save_text.

Go to VA03 (sales order display) and Just give some SO number , and choose menu <b>GO to</b> -> Header => Texts

there you can see the Text window and the texts.

similarly the items also..

just get back if you don't understand .

please read the FM documentation's

Thanks for clarification.

I checked the same at va02,But iam able to find 9 kinds of headings over there ( like Header note,Completion note,Edi text etc).

But i am able to see only Edi text nothing else..

So my question...is

Basically what is the real time use of these TEXTS exactly..

what do we provide in texts ?

what kind of Info i can provide in Header note,completion note ...etc..)

Hi Raja,

some texts will be populated some times , some times they will leave. while creating the Order they will write some header note, completion note.

you can check in VA01/VA02 for creating or saving the long text to header note, completion note. you can try creating that and save it. and come to VA03 and see the text what ever you maintained that will be available.

I am not asking u how to create text..

But <b>i wud like know what Kind of info genereally we provide in texts...</b>.

As i am a beginner..u can explain me with some example data

Ok,

We provide Long texts like descriptions, some Big titles.

SAP scripts texts, text can be long (if they are long then you will go for save_text).

generally we maintain long texts.
