Possible impacts while adding a key field to existing table

Hi all,

We have a Z table and is been currently used by many programs... This table has got only one key filed..

I have a situation to add a additional key field to this table... I know that i have to alter the table through the database utility..

Can anyone tell me what would be the possible impacts ?

It's a pretty vague question. The answeres would range form: "no impact at all" to "total loss of data", with "minor to major program changes" in the middle.

HI ,

You can add the New key field but it will give odd results to other program which is using..


But you are telling it is ztable and it is client requirement see the program where it is using..
check does it impact any output changes by adding Key field , If so tell to client about this if
 he accepts go ahead and create the another key field...

Because they are filtering the data according to single key field and deleting duplicates on single key field..

first Goto t-code se14 and adjust the data base and add the mark the key field in Se11 and --

menu~~go to~~utilities--adjust the database ..and activate.

Its pretty vague so i would like to post the question otherway round

1.Is it recommended to add an additional key field to an existing Z table when it is used by other programs?

how to do a quick impact analysis in this case...

You would have to do a where used list of the table and then analyze the hit list for starters.

Sure - instead of that you could just hope that it works (but keep your resume up to date).

What I am trying to say is that there is no easy way. You must do your analysis, then make your changes based on the analysis, then test.

If you are using the ztable in lot of programs then rather than using primary key why dont you create secondary key on the table.

Actually, I thought I was being diplomatic and I didn't mean that you should assign any points to me.

Anyone who takes time out of their day to help someone who is having a problem deserves some sort of recognition I think. That recognotion is in the form of points in here SCN.
