SAP Integration with JD Edwards and Mainframes

Hi All

We have ECC 6 and we need to set up connection with non-SAP system (JD Edwards & Mainframes) to send and transfer data. We have a middleware called GENTRAN which helps is data transfer between JD Edwards and Apicolar CRM. I wanted some help in finding out the correct to integrate (for data transfer ) between SAP ECC 6 and JD Edwards, Mainframes.

I understand that ECC 6 has XI as its middleware which we can use (correct me if i am wrong) for data transfer.

I want to know which would be the best possible way for data transfer i.e. whether to use GENTRAN or XI and how much effort would be involved in the same. If you have some documents and can share them with me, it would be of great help.

I would suggest you to go for SAP XI because of the following reasons.

SAP Exchange Infrastructure (SAP XI) enables you to implement cross-system processes. It enables you to connect systems from different vendors (non-SAP and SAP) in different versions and implemented in different programming languages (Java, ABAP, and so on) to each other. SAP Exchange Infrastructure is based on an open architecture, uses open standards (in particular those from the XML and Java environments) and offers those services that are essential in a heterogeneous and complex system landscape:

● Modeling and design of messages, transformations, and cross-component integration processes

● Configuration options for managing collaborative processes and message flow

● Runtime for message and process management

● Adapter Engine for integrating heterogeneous system components

● Central monitoring for monitoring message flow and processes

SAP XI supports internal company scenarios and cross-company scenarios.

As far as efforts are concerned it would depend on many factors ranging from the complexity of system landscape, data architecture etc. Please share with me the finer details so that I can comment more on this.

Cap Gemini implemented JD Edwards EnterpriseOne ERP at Hindustan Petroleum. Later CG developed a data migration tool (The Migration Factory) to transfer data from JD Edwards to SAP.
