Thank you everyone. I have followed the steps mentioned by you and could create the extension IDOC successfully.

Actually i was confused because i read in some book that we have to create an extension and then a basic type to attach the extension to it. I guess the author was mentioning about some older version of SAP.

Anyway the problem has now been solved with your help.

Thank you again. This forum is lovely.

Mahesh.

Iam having some problem in extending an idoc. I want to extend an Idoc for customer master DEBMAS01 . I successfully created the custom segment. But there is a confusion in the next steps. Iam working under 4.7 version of SAP.

"Creating an Idoc Extension" and "Connecting the exension to a basic idoc type to create an IDOC".

While creating an Extension i understand that we choose the development object as "extension". When you click on "create" , on the next screen , under "Linked basic type" i suppose i should enter "DEBMAS01 ".

1) After this step, how do i go?? I did not see any option where the system prompts for reference segment type.

2) Moreover, if somehow i create an extension idoc. To attach this idoc, do i have to create another basic idoc in the idoc editor (development object "basic type"). If so where is the option of entering the extension idoc name.

I guess everthing is simple here, but i dont know iam a little confused. Can someone pls explain in simple steps. I would be very thankful.

Regards,

Mahesh.

1) Answer: After linking your Z extension to the basic idoc type, you will go into the editor and make changes - adding your custom segments or custom fields to existing segments The changes you make come into scope only when the basic type and extension are mentioned together. There are no changes to basic type whatsoever.

2) Answer: You need NOT create any basic idoc type. The basic idoc type that you extended along with the extension type define your extended idoc together. You need to assign them both to a message type to be able to assign to a process code and partner profile.

Hi Mahesh,

In we30 (Idoc Editor), you will find two radio buttons

1. Basic Type

2. Extension

When you will create an extension means you want to add some additonal segments to the available basic type, in your case it is debmas01.These extra segments will be created in we31(segment editor) and have to be released( Edit- set release). After releasing segments go to we30 create extension and add the custom segments(created in we31) to the extension under the segments as per your requirement.

you need not create another basic type, only extension is needed( it will contain custom segments along with standard segments provided by basic type). Also add the extension which u created in partner profile.

Regards

Vinod

Hi Mahesh,

The following are the steps to extend a standard IDOC.

1) Create a new segment with the required fields using T.code WE31. Now release the segment.

2) Create the IDOC extension( staring with "Z" ) using T.code WE30 by selecting the radiobutton extension, provide the linked Basic Type eg DEBMAS01 in your case.

Now select the standard segment to which you want to add the new fields. After selecting, click on the create Button and give the name of the custom segment( That you have created with the new fields). Provide the min and max occurences.

3) You have to use this extension in the partner profile entry along with the Basic type , otherwise these fields will not be visible in the IDoc.

Regards,

Monika

Hi,

1) In we30 after creation of the extension idoc the system does not prompt for adding a new segment, but after you enter into screen, you have a button called "CREATE". Once you press it placing the cursor above the segment where you want your zsegment to be added. It prompts "New segment will be added as child segment" Press Ok and continue. Then you can enter your zsegment name, Max and Min number of segments. Now save the idoc.

2) In we82 add the extension idoc type name to the mestype and basic idoc type.

3) In the abap editor you can code the program. But Fill the EDIDC fields of the table with the mestyp, IDOCTP(Basic idoc type), cimtyp(Extension type). This triggers extension idoc type DEBMAS01.

4) In the partner profiles (WE20) for outbound parameters, give the extension idoc name also.
