doubt in ABAP Dictionary

Hi Freinds,

I am learner of ABAP, I have one doubt,

A transparent table is automatically created on the database when it is activated

in the ABAP Dictionary.

my question is

where does ABAP DICTIONARY will be there ? in application server or data base server ? , can any one explain me what's the difference between ABA[ DICTIONARY and DATABASE

Hi,

The ABAP DICTIONARY is located in Application server.

Actualy it contains the definition of database table. This database files is located in the database server and contains data in a scattered manner. Upon activation a 1 to 1 mapping is created among the data file and the database table definition in the data-dictionary.

So that, in future , when you try to fetch data with Open SQL, the data values are picked from he datatable and are arranged as per the given format of DDIC(Data Dictionary) for the table.

ABAP Dictionary is in Application Server.Data Dictionary contains meta data(Data about data).

Data is in Database sever. We need not to retrieve data each time from database tables , we can get it from data dictionary.

Hi,

1. ABAP Dictionary will be on Application Server.

2. ABAP Dictionary is the logical representation of Database.

3. when you create a table in data dictionary and activate it the table with same name and same fields is

created in database.

4. ABAP Dictionary will show you the data in database.

5. wheras structres will be created on application server only and not on database.

6. so ABAP dictionary is centerilize source of information which can be use in your program. it contain definations

7. in short is contain meta data i.e. data abt data.

ABAP DICTIONARY WILL BE ON APPLICATION SERVER.

ABAP DICTIONARY IS A CENTRALIZED STORAGE LOCATION FOR A DATA WHICH IS STORE IN DATABASE.

ABAP Dictionary will be on application server and abap dictionary centrally describes and manages all the data definitions and data elements used in the system.
