Using ST05 I did an analysis

SELECT from MARA table without key field material is taking very long, and with SE30 the issue is with database > 80 percent.

However the report cannot specify material number as it is optional paramater, also I cannot use ranges since the field is alphanumeric, how to solve this issue.

Well in that case you may check whether you can add an index on MARA for the fields which you are using to retrieve data from MARA.

Create a secondary index on the fields which u r using in WHERE clause.
