Please explain SAP R/1, R/2 and R/3 architecture and its difference.

All the 3 layers like Presentation Layer, Application layer and Database layer are designed in single system in R/1 scenario

here the moving of the applications are too tough

coming to

R/2 architecture ........

presentation and application layers will be present in one system and database layer in separate system

.here to some extent data is exchanged randomly between layers

R/3 architecture..................

all the three layers are present in three different systems........

here there is no bottle neck of applications .

hi,

There are three type of layers Presentation Layer, Application layer and Database layer

R/1: In this scenario all the layers are present in one box which is very risky and this is not used.

R/2: In this scenario Presentation Layer, Application layer are present in one box and Database layer in another box this is the another scenario which is still used by some companyies which is little risky because if one is effected then the another layer may get effected.

R/3: In this scenario all the layers Presentation Layer, Application layer and Database layer are place in different boxes which is recommended by SAP becouse each and every box are different.Most af the companyies now are useing this scenario i.e r/3.

hi karthick,

In SAP architecture we come across with three tier architecture that is R1,r2,r3..

the main difference between these three architectures are dependent on the layers .....

1)presentation layer 2) application layer 3) database layer

presentation layer in presentation layers all end users logon to sap system

application layerin application layer , depending on scenario we run the processes given by users

database layer in database layer, all the required data can be taken from the database...layer

r1: in this architecture all the three layers will reside in single system.in this type of architecture the possiblity of changes will be less

r2: in this architecture application layer and presentation layer will reside in single system and database in different system, even though the process timinig of data is less , errors can be rectified to some extent

r3: coming to this architecture , all the three layers will reside in different systems , the probability of getting errors is less when compared to r1 and r3,,, so every production system is designed with r3 architecture...

SAP R/1: is 1-tier architecture. In which all 3 layers [Presentation + Application + Database] are installed in one systems/server.

( Server One u2013 Presentation + Application + Database )

SAP R/2: is 2-tier architecture. In which all 3 layers [Presentation + Application + Database] are installed in two separate systems/server.

( Server One - Presentation , Server Two - Application +Database)

SAP R/3: is 3-tier architecture. In which all 3 layers [Presentation + Application + Database] are installed in three separate systems/server.

(server One -Presentation, server Two - Application, Server Three - Database)

Hi Karthick,

r/3 has 3 layes they are presentation layer,application layer and database layer.

r/2 has two layers presentation and application layer

r/1 has only one layer and it is very difficult and may cause production errors.

R/3 layer is always prefer and good for business analysis.

Well let me explain which i know..

a. Primary goal of SAP Architecture provides a set of tightly coupled in major business application.

b. The SAP System Architecture includes Presentation, Application, and Database layers.

It is 3 tier architecture. Its a client server architecture.

Presentation layer -> Provides graphical screen to user, the user will enter the data on the screen
Application layer -> Process data using application logic and also it communicates with both the layers
Database layer -> Stores the data in Hana database
