Hi friends,

Under ECC 6.0/HPUX While installing , the installation stopped at this point, does anyone have any idea

- are you running the installation as user "root"?

- is there a /home directory on your server?

YEs i am running with the root access, they have created root access to a user e.g rpdld.

The directory /home exists on that server.

That won't work, you need to use "root" as user, not a user that has the right permission.

The error message is pretty clear: The user you are running the installation with has no permissions to create a subdirectory.

You can't use a different user but you MUST use root (read the installation documentation).

Thanks for the advise, now i am running under the user root, it is running, but the thing is the GUI screen didn't pop up, but the installation is running. What can i do now .

If you did "su - " to switch to the root user you have to

- execute "xhost +" as the user you initially logged on

- set the DISPLAY variable of the root user to your IP and DISPLAY

Deleted the old tmp files and now able to run successfully.

Did you install Oracle before you started sapinst?

I am in the central intance installation, after this i will install the oracle and then the datbase instance.

In the previous installation of 4.7 ee, i installed centrl, then oracle and then databse instance install.

I don't know why it is coming up with this error.

You wrote in your initial post that you are installing an ERP 6.0 system. In that installation there is no difference between central and database installation.

Usually you install ERP as "one" step, you start with sapinst until it stops and requests you to install the Oracle software, you do that, install the latest Oracle patchset, install the latest interim patches and then go on with the installation.

Hi Markus,

I am doing the ERP 6.0 installation, 4.7 previous installation - i mean when i installed in the past.

So in ECC there is only one installation that is central system installation, in this central system installation you mean that databse system installation is included. what about the distributed system installation option in ECC .

So it is not like 4.7 where we do the central system then oracle, patches and interim patches and the datbase instance installation and the post installation.

So to resolve the error mesage i got, so do i have to go head in installing the oracle.

To me it seems that sapinst has found an Oracle installation, otherwise it wouldn't try to start the listener.

Is there an existing /etc/oratab or other Oracle version on that machine?

Yes, there are other systems on this server, but we have created file systems, /oracle/mrd, /sapdata1-4 ,/mirrlog , /origlog,/saparch etc.

Can i stop at this phase and start installing the oracle logging into the file system /oracle/mrd

There went something wrong during the installation the system detected an Oracle instance which is already there (but not yet really for that instance).

It won´t be enough to install Oracle, this will maybe enable sapinst to start the listener but it will come to other errors later.

Before harming the other systems I suggest you open an OSS call and let the support have a look on the system. Here in the forum it´s impossible to suggest anything without knowing exactly what sapinst detected and how you should proceed.

Thanks for the reply. Can i uninstall the central instance, till where i have installed, start from the scratch in the below procedure

First installing oracle,patches and interim patches

Then install the central instance etc, or do you want me to raise a OSS note.what do u suggest.

As I said before, I would open an OSS call and let the support have a look on the system. Since you don´t use a "standard setup" I can´t help you - sorry.

I am sorry for that. As said i have raised an OSS message with SAP, there suggestion was to follow the OSS note 830578. I have done as per note but still same problem, waiting a reply from sap.
