      <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hi all,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Actually i configure the solution manager 7.1 system preparation and basic settings also finished. Currently i configured MOPZ for updating the Patch sp9 to sp14. So that now i want to take backup of sybase backup, i am new to sybase database .       <description>&lt;HTML&gt;&lt;HEAD&gt;&lt;/HEAD&gt;&lt;BODY&gt;&lt;P&gt;Hi Rajesh,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Please follow the below step for dumping the database and its log in sybase ASE&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;configuration for Database backup in SYBASE&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;____________________________________________&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1) Login to OS level and switch to syb&amp;lt;sid&amp;gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;2) Ensure you have the folders created for backup&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; e:\backup&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; e:\backup\db #(for dumping database backup file)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; e:\backup\log #(for dumping database log backup file)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2(A) to give permission and assign group to directory&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;3) Login to command line sql utility of sybase database as:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Here I have taken SID as SMD&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; isql64 -Usa -P&amp;lt;password&amp;gt; -S&amp;lt;SID&amp;gt; -X&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; Example:-isql64 -Usa -PApassw0#d -SSMD -X&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;4) You are only allowed to create the backup config in master database, the below command will help you create a config to be used for database backup&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;sp_config_dump @config_name = 'SMDDB' ,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;@stripe_dir = 'E:\backup\db' ,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 3&amp;gt;@compression = '101' ,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 4&amp;gt;@verify = 'header'&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 5&amp;gt;go #watch out for the ',' &lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;5) in case you are not in master database, you can check this and go to master database as follows:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;select db_name()&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; #this command will give you the name of the database you are currently using&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;6) in case the result is not master, you can use master database using the following command:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;use master&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;7) if the creation of backup config is successful, you will get the below confirmation message:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; The change is completed. The option is dynamic and ASE need not be rebooted for&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; the change to take effect.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; (return status = 0)&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;configuration for transaction log backup in SYBASE&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;___________________________________________________&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;1) You are only allowed to create the backup config in master database, the below command will help you create a config to be used for transaction backup&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;sp_config_dump @config_name='SMDLOG' ,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;@stripe_dir = 'E:\backup\log' ,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 3&amp;gt;@compression = '101' ,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 4&amp;gt;@verify = 'header'&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 5&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;2) if transaction log truncate option se set to true, the log backup will not work and you will get a prompt from sybase database to set it to false, the message back from the sybase is as below:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; Msg 4208, Level 16, State 1:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; Server 'PID', Line 1:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; DUMP TRANsaction to a dump device is not allowed while the trunc. log on chkpt.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; option is enabled.&amp;nbsp; Disable the option with sp_dboption, then use DUMP DATABASE,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; before trying again.&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; You can set the truncate option to false as below:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;sp_dboption SMD,'trunc',false&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;3) After this you will be prompted to execute checkpoint in &amp;lt;SID&amp;gt; database which is done as below:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;use SMD&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;checkpoint&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Note:- After dumping transaction log you will be able to do database dumps&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;4) Once you are done with this, you may go back to master database and fire the dump transaction&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;(You will have to execute dump database before you can use dump transaction) as shown below:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;dump transaction SMD using config='SMDLOG'&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;5) Now, you will be able to trigger the backup using the below command:&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 1&amp;gt;dump database SMD using config = 'SMDDB'&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&amp;nbsp; 2&amp;gt;go&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;6) Once, this is successful, you may want to schedule this as a regular task in your database calender using DBACOCKPIT&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Regards,&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;Pankaj&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;M:-+91 8511730039&lt;/P&gt;&lt;P&gt;&lt;SPAN&gt;mail:&lt;/SPAN&gt;&lt;A class="jive-link-email-small" href="mailto:-pankaj3176@gmail.com"&gt;-pankaj3176@gmail.com&lt;/A&gt;&lt;/P&gt;&lt;/BODY&gt;&lt;/HTML&gt;</description>
