Major problems installing GUI v7.30

Hi folks,

Has anyone else had any issues installing version 7.30 of the SAP GUI?

It just will not install for me. I have a little over 300 PCs to upgrade, mainly from v7.20 to v7.30 with a small number from v7.10 to v7.30.

I have tried every single different scenario I can think of:

1) Out of the box PCs

2) Installing 7.30 over 7.10

3) Installing 7.30 over 7.20

4) Removing 7.10 before installing 7.30

5) Removing 7.20 before installing 7.30

6) Remote installations

7) Manual "at the PC" installations

😎 Installing logged in as a Domain Admin

9) Running the .exe as Domain Admin but logged in as the power user

10) Uninstalling previous version and removing all traces of SAP before installing 7.30 (registry/directories)

11) Switching off Anti-Virus before installing

12) Attempted installations on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Windows XP.

13) Attempted installations on both 32 bit and 64 Windows Operating Systems.

The end result has now been the same on 22 out of 24 attempts. The installation finishes with 231 errors (always 231) and when I try run the software I get the following message:

"The program can't start because MSVCR100.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem"

I have raised this issue with SAP, followed a long list of instructions whilst some debugging software is running to collect data. I've sent the log files to them to which they reply and tell me that the log file states the software was installed correctly. Which is WRONG!!

And besides, even if it did, it's unacceptable to have to perform these actions (taking over an hour) to install the latest GUI over 300 times!!

Since then, SAP have gone quiet. I don't want to try anymore until I fix this.

The 2 out of the 24 that worked were identical to 6 of the PCs that failed (both in hardware and software, even down to Windows Updates!). There seems to be no pattern.

Has anyone out there experienced issues installing 7.30?

i have upgrade 7.30 in our organization to many people i didnt get any error so can you please share me the error message in that way i can get the clarification

Possibly also a corrupt download of the dvd.

Recommend you should download the latest compilation 2 DVD and try once.

Hi Paul,

Please take a look at SAP Note 1553465 Prerequisites for 720/721 EXT and higher kernels on Windows.

Each SAP kernel has program dependencies on the Microsoft C-runtime. Since the C-runtime is not part of the kernel, you have to install the relevant C-runtime before you start the SAP system. Otherwise, you will get an error message similar to this:

This application has failed to start because MSVCP100.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

I would highly recommend applying the latest SAPSETUP 9.0 patch 36 as part of your solution.

I've reviewed the link in the first reply. Every PC in our company has a version of Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable installed, so I don't think this is connected to my problem.

The installation has been downloaded from the SAP Marketplace so hopefully that isn't the issue.

You will need a Windows server OS to distribute the SAPGUI installation.

It's recommened that you createa an installation server as your starting point.

SAP runs on an iSeries. However I do have an Installation Server setup on a Windows OS and used that server to create the package. I initially tried to push this out using a batch file to run the program.

That failed miserably.

So I've attempted the installation using numerous different methods, right down to sitting at the PC with the installation files on a USB drive and running it locally.

Still doesn't work. This is the same now on almost 40 different PCs. Some of which are identical to PCs in which the installation has been successful.

I have no idea what is going on. It should be a simple process but it's proving to be an absolute nightmare.

Just tried a brand new "out of the box" laptop. Literally switched it on, put it on the Domain and ran the install (which was downloaded from the Service Marketplace).

The outcome is this:

The installation of SAP Front-End components failed with 136 error(s)

And the GUI will not run.

It's a brand new machine!

SAP need to step up here. But they have just washed their hands of it.

When you are install the new version of SAPGUI 7.30 ,first thing you have to uninstall the old version(SAPGUI 7.10 or 7.20 ) and rename the folder c:\program files\sap\frontend.

Hi Paul,

Today I had the same problem as you are reporting. The installation was done with an administrator user and was still giving the same problem.

The solution to my problem was uninstalling all SAP Gui 7.30 components and re-launch the installation again but this time right click over sapguisetup.exe and select "run as administrator" and installation completed successfully and I could start without the problems that will appear to you .

Thanks for the suggestion. And whilst this may work (I haven't had a second to try it yet although the installation is performed as a Domain Administrator) this would not be an acceptable solution. I have over 300 PCs on which to install this software, around 10% of which are not on site.

I need a solution which allows me to install this software remotely.

Surely I am not the only one with this problem. There must be Basis teams out there that need to install this software on 1000's of PCs all over the world making it impossible to visit each PC individually.

I have already raised a support message with SAP and sent numerous log files at their request. Their only answer was to perform certain actions before installing which required me to be sat at the PC and in total took me over an hour to complete. This is also unacceptable. Again, I have PCs on the other side of the world to install this software on.

I should be able to push this software out from a central location and have it installed on every PC on my network within 10 minutes. Like I can with every other piece of software we use in our company.

SAP strikes again!

Hello Paul.

The installation guide advises to create an installation server,instead of running the command directly off the downloaded DVD.

The recommended method is to use the nwsapsetup admin tool, to create an installation

server which is then used to distribute the required package to the workstations.

The compilation dvd has the SAPGUI setup pdf file which gives further information on this.
