This blog post highlights some of the key features and improvements that we believe will be beneficial to your development processes. To explore these enhancements in depth, check out the details of what's new!

New Status Transition Flows Feature Now Available

At reCAP 2025, we have presented a first lab preview of our new status transition flows feature, which simplifies the process of managing workflows in CAP. Over the last months, we have consistently improved it, as you can see in the lab preview presented at Devtoberfest 2025. Now, we are pleased to announce the beta release of this new status transition flows feature.

Many applications require workflows with different statuses - such as \"open,\" \"accepted,\" or \"rejected\"- and transitions between them. Previously, implementing these status transition flows in CAP required significant manual work. Developers had to define statuses and transitions in the CDS model, implement business logic handlers, configure UI behavior, and maintain consistency across all these components when changes occurred. For complex real-world scenarios, this often resulted in extensive code maintenance.

With the introduction of the status transition flows feature, much of this manual effort is eliminated. You can now define your status transitions using three simple CDS annotations:

'@flow.status': Marks the status property.

'@from' and '@to': Specify the transitions from one status to another.

The system automatically registers the necessary handlers for checking entry conditions ('@from') and setting target states ('@to'). Additionally, the required UI annotations are created.

While the generated logic provides a robust framework, you retain the flexibility to override it as needed, ensuring maximum customization. For a comprehensive understanding of this new feature, we encourage you to consult our detailed documentation.

The new CAP Console

The new CAP Console addresses common developer frustrations by simplifying deployment and monitoring for SAP Cloud Application Programming Model (CAP) applications on SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP). Built as an evolution of the Developer Dashboard for Java, this tool supports both Java and JavaScript projects. It offers features like the automatic detection of running CAP projects, a \"Remember Project\" function and customizable project views to keep your workspace organized.

The deployment process is streamlined through step-by-step guidance, which includes SAP BTP authentication, account selection, and resource availability checks. Developers can choose between deploying directly within the console or using terminal commands.

For monitoring, the CAP Console delivers a graphical overview of application components, real-time performance metrics, and integrated log viewing with adjustable log levels. It also facilitates easy switching between different environments, such as development, testing, and production, with configurations stored in git-friendly YAML files. And it maintains security by leveraging existing SAP BTP permissions and secure SSH tunnels. The tool is available for download from SAP Tools, aiming to reduce the operational overhead for developers and allow them to focus more on coding rather than managing deployments and monitoring. This plugin, which enables developers to add file upload and management capabilities to their applications with minimal code, has been widely adopted by the community. We are happy to tell you that we now upgraded this plugin based on developer feedback about missing features, documentation gaps, and bugs.

Both, Node.js (v 3.4.0 onwards) and Java versions (v 1.2.2 onwards) of the plugin now offer multi-cloud support, malware scanning for uploaded attachments, and enhanced monitoring and logging capabilities. The Node.js plugin includes additional features such as multi-tenancy support for all storage providers, dynamic visibility control for UI attachments panels, and SAPUI5 validation methods for maximum file size and accepted media types.

The updates also include comprehensive documentation updates for both plugins, ensuring developers have access to current and accurate information.
